Hello everyone. I wanted to start this article with a little informational dump about my life. It’s currently 6:25am where I am at. Before this I was tossing and turning for two hours in my bed, and I decided I might as well start my day since sleep was avoiding me. So here I am, writing about something I think about all the time, something I have actually written about before on another website inspired by this topic; Carriacou’s Big Drum Dance. This article will be another layer on top of my previous article, which I will link here. For those that don’t know, Carriacou is the largest island within the Grenadines, and yet, it is under the jurisdiction of Grenada, not St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This tiny island was the home of my mother’s parents, and it is so small that one could walk the entire thing in a day. With a population of around 8000–10,000 people it is quite rural and peaceful, but sadly, poor.

What Carriacou lacks in financial wealth, however, is made up by it’s rich culture. Considered the most African island in the Caribbean, Carriacou boasts a great connection and memory of the different ethnic groups…
